Michigan Indigent Defense Advisory Commission members

On October 13, 2011, Michigan Governor Rick Snyder issued Executive Order No. 2011-12 establishing an Indigent Defense Advisory Commission (Commission) to make recommendations to the Governor and Legislature for “improvements to the system of providing legal representation for indigent criminal defendants.”  The Governor will appoint a chair of the Commission from the following appointees: the Honorable Jim Fisher [former Circuit Court Judge of Barry County (Hastings)]; Honorable Tom Boyd [Chief Judge, Ingham County (Lansing)]; Hon. Colleen O’Brien [Circuit Judge, Oakland County (Pontiac)]; Ronald J. Schafer [Prosecutor, Ionia County (Ionia)]; John Shea [Criminal Defense Attorney, Washtenaw County (Ann Arbor)]; Judith S. Gracey [Private attorney, Oakland County (Sylvan Lake)]; Maggie Jones [Livingston County Commissioner (Howell)]; Pastor Michael Brown (Executive Director, Kalamazoo Gospel Mission); Suzanne Sareini (Dearborn City Council); and, Andrew Richner (Grosse Point Park).  The Legislative appointees are:  Sen. Bruce Caswell (Republican, 16th District); Sen. Bert Johnson (Democrat, 2nd District); Rep. Tom McMillan (Republican, District 45); and, Rep. Ellen Cogan Lipton (D – District 27).
